The annex utilized custom decorative fixtures, linear coves, accents, and recessed downlights to elegantly illuminate the spacious lounges, bars, and restrooms.
James Earl Jones Theatre
New York, NY
Previously the Cort Theatre, it’s now the only surviving and still active theatre on Broadway designed by architect Thomas Lamb.
It reopened in 2022 after an extensive renovation of the existing theatre and an addition of a five-story, 20,000 square foot annex, providing better circulation between floors with elevators, generous lobby space, accessible restrooms, new dressing rooms space, and a rehearsal room. Schuler Shook provided architectural lighting and lighting control for both spaces.
The original illuminated blue glass proscenium was restored and back lit with new linear LED fixtures. The theatre renovation included LED fixtures reminiscent of traditional incandescent sources to highlight warm colors in the paint, fabrics, and mural over the proscenium. Decorative fixtures were refurbished while new fixtures were added in select locations.
