Advanced production technologies, an innovative elliptical shape, and a 100 foot wide stained-glass window create a unique space that supports services, concerts, and lectures.
The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection
Leawood, KS
A 3,500-seat sanctuary with no parishioner further than 100 feet from the pastor.
Schuler Shook provided theatre planning services, seating layouts, architectural and production lighting design, production rigging design, and platform lift design.
Concealed catwalks, a robust theatrical lighting system, and flexible architectural lighting allow the space to pivot from a traditional worship space to a dynamic concert venue for contemporary services. A large stage lift allows materials and music equipment to be quickly moved between services.
A motorized curtain blacks out the stained-glass window as needed. Outside, this window is visible and can be illuminated at night and when the curtain is closed. The flexible user-friendly lighting control system allows users of varied levels of expertise to reconfigure the room.
