Designed by Smith Gee Studio and landscape architects Hawkins Partners, Ascend Amphitheater is part of the newly revitalized 11-acre Riverfront Park in Nashville. Schuler Shook’s theatre planners helped determine the program and what the venue needed from back of house spaces to technical capabilities on stage for this premier outdoor concert destination in one of America’s most musical cities.
The new amphitheatre’s design breaks with tradition, offering views of the skyline and park through the open back of the proscenium. Schuler Shook helped create a performance space that supports a wide range of top music performers, from country music to the Nashville Symphony.
The design team included acousticians from JaffeHolden. Schuler Shook’s theatre planning team included Jack Hagler, Robert McVay, and Alex Robertson.
The awards ceremony will take place as part of the USITT Annual Conference & Stage Expo Friday, March 10, 2017, in St. Louis.
