Walton Arts Center
Fayetteville, AR
Schuler Shook provided theatre planning and architectural lighting design for the renovation and expansion of the Walton Arts Center, enhancing the venue to better serve Northwest Arkansas with flexible, accessible, and modern performance spaces.
Through extensive collaboration with resident companies such as the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas and a wide range of local arts organizations — from jazz ensembles to opera companies and children’s theatre — we gained a deep understanding of the community’s artistic and operational needs. These insights directly informed practical design strategies for performance venues including the 1,200-seat Baum Walker Hall, the flexible Starr Theatre, extensive backstage support areas, and a spacious, welcoming new lobby and bar.
Upgrades included a completely reimagined front-of-house area designed to host a broader range of performances and community events, increased structural capacity and improved accessibility in Baum Walker Hall, significantly enlarged and enhanced Starr Theatre, expanded and modernized back-of-house spaces and administrative offices.
