Many elements throughout the design became a contemporary reinterpretation of the existing building fabric with a twist of modern urban design. A control system provides ease of maintenance, user-friendly controls to balance the ambiance and lighting presets to control the kinetic features.
W Minneapolis, The Foshay
Minneapolis, MN
The Foshay Tower, a landmark building constructed in 1929 and once the tallest building in the U.S., was transformed into an upscale, contemporary hotel in downtown Minneapolis. The lighting design was a careful balance of mixing the historic attributes of the original office building lobby and the 32 story tower with the progressive chic style of the W.
The lighting design features custom fixtures throughout to add elegance with a dramatic flair.
A custom lighting treatment transformed an existing column into a dramatic feature. The outer crystal strands of glass spheres reflect in the mirrored column. Slow changing LED’s fixtures morph the crystal column with blue and hints of magenta. Lighting presets control the kinetic features and ambient lighting.
The hotel features 229 distinct guest rooms and suites, W’s Living Room lounge, the Prohibition sky bar, a restaurant, the historic lobby arcade, and meeting space
