The theatrical and architectural lighting in the lobby provides great flexibility. A theatrical pipe grid with color changing theatrical fixtures allows the large open room to be both an elegant backdrop for broadcast or an event space that easily accommodates bands and dance parties. The production infrastructure was designed to accommodate additional camera and theatrical equipment for larger events. An up-to-date control system enables quick changes and added convenience.
Twin Cities Public Television
St. Paul, MN
TPT’s headquarters were renovated to reflect changes in the industry. The open layout has fewer studios and a redesigned lobby with open meeting areas for employees and a state of the art live event space for gatherings, lectures and concerts.
Schuler Shook’s theatre planning services for the broadcast studio included help in designing and layout of the lighting, control, and pipe grid. Lighting design services included the television broadcast studio, lobby, entry corridor, board room, and public areas.
Schuler Shook also provided architectural lighting design services for the entire building. Great care was taken to reduce power consumption, minimize glare, and provide for greater worker comfort. Daylighting control was use to harvest light from large windows on the upper floors. Meeting spaces were designed to be flexible to allow for a wide range of programming.
