Our scope required theatre planning and specialist lighting to work hand-in-hand. The challenge: achieving safe illumination of stairs and aisles — where riser heights varied and directions changed unpredictably — without spilling light onto the stage. Aisle lighting that compromises blackout moments gets switched off by theatre operators, so the design had to work for both safety and performance.
Working with Blight Rayner, we developed a seating design that honours the theatre’s heritage character whilst delivering contemporary comfort and safety standards. Two generations of failing seats were replaced with a unified design that respects the original aesthetic.
