The lighting design focuses on creating a warm, welcoming space, containing lighting controls with tunable white lighting capabilities and daylight responsive dimming. A variety of fixtures and lighting techniques are used to achieve a comfortable atmosphere, while providing the proper amount of illumination needed by medical professionals.
Howard Brown Health Halsted
Chicago, IL
Located in one of the oldest LGBTQ+ neighborhoods in the US, the five-story Howard Brown Health clinic offers much-needed medical access, extensive programming, and comprehensive treatment to its patients.
Schuler Shook provided full scope lighting design services for the clinic’s public areas, conference rooms, exam rooms, office spaces, restrooms, staff lounges, and facade.
Several studies and renderings were conducted for the lighting design of the exterior of the building.
Schuler Shook worked closely with Eckenhoff Saunders to design and develop a lighting solution that would provide clean architectural detail and the ability to commemorate various holidays and events. Both of these criteria were met through color-changing LEDs that graze upward, showcasing the building’s unique brick detailing.
