Visible from Michigan Avenue and Millennium Park, the historic exterior facade is uplit to enhance the Venetian Gothic lattice work.
Chicago Athletic Association Hotel
Chicago, IL
Located on a landmarked portion of Chicago’s historic Michigan Avenue “Street Wall,” the former Chicago Athletic Association club was meticulously restored and adapted to a well-appointed boutique hotel.
Guests enter a main floor lobby and continue upward to multiple restaurants and public socializing spaces, as well as the private hotel rooms. Schuler Shook’s interior lighting design scope included the lobby, reading room/lounge area, game room, meeting rooms, ballrooms, Cherry Circle Room (2016 James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant Design), Cindy’s rooftop restaurant and other public spaces.
Schuler Shook designed the exterior lighting for Cindy’s and its terrace that overlooks Millennium Park. Schuler Shook worked with Chicago Landmarks to ensure that the restaurant atop the hotel is not visible from the ground, thus preserving the original look of the building.
