Schuler Shook provided full theatre consulting services for the two theatres, back of house, and front of house areas. The performance venues and support spaces are designed to service local, regional and professional touring performing arts as well as to be used for school performances, civic functions and conferences.
Bunjil Place
Narre Warren, VIC
Bunjil Place is truly a community facility with multiple space types including council offices, a library, a gallery, an 800-seat theatre and a 250-seat black box all under a single, unifying roof. The foyers serve all spaces in the building which helps ensure that they are lively and active throughout the day.
The 800 seat-theatre includes a single wrapping balcony accentuated by FJMT’s undulating timber paneling.
The multipurpose nature of the building continues into the back of house where an array of functional spaces can be used for many types of theatre uses and to suit the layout of the building. For instance, the dock is specially arranged with loading at two ends, one for the main theatre and the other for the black box.
This new cultural center for the City of Casey achieves the goals of the brief: to bring people together in a multifunctional space that is a home for all.
