Apollo High School’s theatre was originally designed with flexibility to accommodate the needs of the school including the ability to partition off two seating areas at the rear of the theatre into separate lecture rooms. This provided flexibility at the time of its original design, the usage of these spaces diminished and the need to accommodate larger audiences increased. Additionally, the production support systems had become obsolete and in need of replacement.
A $4.15 million renovation modernized and refreshed this 750-seat performance space.
Schuler Shook provided planning, design, construction administration, and system commissioning services for the theatre. Planning services included multiple user group meetings with both school district personnel, performance space programming, room adjacency planning, and sightline studies. Additionally, Schuler Shook collaborated with the architect and other design team members on the orchestra shell design, seating layouts, stage rigging renovation, catwalks and lighting position layouts and design, and electrical feeds for the theatre and theatrical lighting systems. Theatre Planning services included design, cost estimating, and documentation for the theatrical rigging system, orchestra shell, theatrical lighting system, audio video system, and architectural lighting in the theatre.
