The University of Virginia, Arts Center
Wise, VA
The University’s Arts Center renovation and expansion began in 2003 and included a new studio theatre, a rehearsal studio, scene shop, costume shop, dressing rooms, and support spaces for theatre production and educational programs.
One of the most technically equipped facilities in the region, the studio theatre features a state of the art automated rigging system and motorized revolving turntable, plus many additional outstanding elements. Designed for flexibility, the space easily transforms into 1‑sided, 3‑sided, or 4‑sided performance configurations, with seating for 130 to 200 patrons.
The new building additionally houses classrooms and studios for art, print making, painting, and sculpture alongside band, choral, and music education studios and classrooms. A new gallery space showcases student work. The building surrounds an open air courtyard designed to support outdoor theatrical performances.
