Floor to ceiling windows overlook San Francisco’s bustling Union Square at Convene 100 Stockton, a coworking space from Convene that promotes community, inclusion, and the company philosophy that “a life well-lived can happen at work.”
Every Convene space is uniquely designed to reflect and celebrate its surrounding neighborhood. Here the design draws from nearby landmark architecture, coastal contemporary residences, and even the weather, incorporating elements such as dramatic stonework, warm wood finishes, and layered sunset tones with varying levels of opacity.
The lighting design balances daylight with electric sources, combining tranquility with the clean lines of modern architecture. Decorative fixtures, linear ambient lighting, and custom-designed lights were utilized to add variety and moments of surprise throughout the space.
In particular, the design team drew inspiration from “Karl the Fog,” San Francisco’s famously named blanket of coastal fog that regularly rolls in from the Pacific and drifts through the city’s hills and streets. Both a defining feature of the local climate and a beloved cultural icon (even with its own social media presence), Karl has come to symbolize the city’s moody, atmospheric beauty. This hometown hero is subtley referenced through a custom “squiggle” light fixture and reflective artwork and décor, evoking the shifting, luminous quality of fog as it moves through the urban landscape.
The largest of the meeting spaces, The Forum, includes a lighting system and grid designed by our theatre planners. The system provides adjustable broadcast-quality lights for arrangement flexibility.
