Samuel Butler
Theatre Consultant
Samuel moved into the Theatre Consultant role in Schuler Shook’s Melbourne office, thanks to his top-notch problem-solving and 3D visualisation skills. He enjoys both the technical and the aesthetic aspects of our consulting work.
Samuel’s projects include Arts Centre Melbourne: State Theatre Fly System & Master Plan, Comedy Theatre, Melbourne; VIC; Queensland Performing Arts Centre, Stage 7, Brisbane, QLD; and University of Melbourne Student Union.
The extended lockdown has made him realise what a vibrant place Melbourne usually is, and he’s resolved to take full advantage of everything the city has to offer now that Australia is enjoying the freedom of being together again.
Jess Baker
Senior Lighting Designer
Recently promoted to Senior Lighting Designer, Jess continues to shine as a leader in Schuler Shook’s Chicago office, applying her experience and her research to architectural lighting innovations for her clients. Recognized by Lighting Magazine as a global 40Under40 lighting designer, Jess is a true collaborator – befitting her theatre background – who makes the process of design as enjoyable and memorable as the lighting schemes themselves.
Jess’s projects include JPMorgan Chase Polaris Hub, Columbus, OH; Vanderbilt University Residential Colleges, Nashville, TN; University of Virginia Alderman Library, Charlottesville, VA; and Wilkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, Chicago, IL.
She is a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society’s Color Committee and offers AIA CES presentations to share her expertise on the topic of Light & Health.
Jean Gonzalez-Hill
Theatre Consultant
Recently promoted to Theatre Consultant from his start as a Theatre Specialist in Schuler Shook’s Dallas office, Jean’s passion is to create spaces for performance that serve the artists, technicians, and audiences well. His clients benefit from his guidance and insights for creative design options.
Jean’s projects include University of Memphis Music Building, Memphis, TN; Tennessee Shakespeare Company, Cordova, TN; Jordan High School, Katy, TX; and Cumberland High School, Tyler, TX.]
Apart from designing and drafting theatres, Jean likes to keep himself busy designing in them as a lighting and scenic designer and is looking forward to a return to such work soon! He also enjoys relaxing at home with his husband and their two corgis.
Travis Shupe
Lighting Specialist
Travis joins us in Chicago, bringing to the team his experience in the theatre, broadcast, and live events industries. The intersection of art, physics, and technology is where Travis finds his passion for architectural lighting design.
He has been hard at work on projects including Vanderbilt University Residential College C, Nashville, TN; TimeLine Theatre, Chicago, IL; University of Virginia Alderman Library, Charlottesville, VA; and River City Condominiums Gymnasium, Chicago, IL.]
Travis also enjoys spending time at the ceramics studio turning lumps of clay into handmade functional vessels on the potter’s wheel.
