FBI Regional Office Lobby
Chicago, Illinois, USA
Schuler Shook collaborated with Lohan Anderson on the lighting design for the lobby of the FBI division headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. The lobby is a grand space that features a tall, coffered ceiling and floor-to-ceiling glazing. Daylight blankets the space in natural light for portions of the day, while the electric lighting design is critical to ensuring that light levels are balanced and inviting. Ceramic metal halide wallwash fixtures are carefully integrated into the coffered ceiling to illuminate the wood paneled walls and reinforce the geometric ceiling pattern. Decorative, ceramic metal halide pendants are suspended within each coffer to create visual interest and uplight the ceiling.
The wall opposite the glazing features a commissioned art piece that is illuminated by fixtures that are carefully focused and locked in place. Schuler Shook orchestrated several mockups to confirm the optimum fixture types and placement for the artwork.
